Danae Diaz was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1981. Drawing was always her escape. It was the only thing that made her feel comfortable as a little kid. everything else in life wasn’t that interesting.
She studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and she went through two student-exchange programs: one in Manchester Metropolitan University and the other at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißenssee, where she stayed and continued working.
After finishing her studies in 2005, she started to introduce herself in the professional world of animation and illustration. In Berlin, she became freelance and after working for some 2D traditional animation studios, where she learned how animation works, she started to attract the attention of more and more clients such as advertising agencies, music labels, publishing houses, magazines and institutions.
Danae’s work hangs between art and design, between dream and reality, between life and death. Her chosen media are mostly pencil drawing, watercolors, and computer imaging. Her personal work is inspired especially by fears in relation to everyday life and has been exhibitided in Spain, Germany, Brussels and the USA. A personal book project titled The Liberation was published by Berlin-based independent publishers, Onkel & Onkel. Her work has also been published in illustration annuals like Three by Three Illustration and Grafuck.
A music video for the German band Brandt Brauer Frick which she codirected, designed and illustrated was screened, and received awards, in several festivals worldwide.
She is currently based in Berlin.
Some of her clients include !K7, Liberal Magazine, in|pact media, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Brandt Brauer Frick, Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin, Onkel & Onkel, Textunes, imc AG, Kaiserbrand, die Goldkinder, The Gym records, Ensemble Adapter, Rothkirch Cartoon Film, Hahn Film,…
