As far back as I can remember I have always been creative. Some of my earliest memories are of myself building a lego construction or making something unique at the beach. My nursery school teacher informs me that I consistently made beautiful and colourful pictures.
The inspiration for my paintings comes from the urban environment. Architecture, buildings and their relationships with each other fascinates me. Their overall size and structure can be awesome and humbling. It is when I walk around cities that I am inspired to paint a certain building or a particular view. The majority of my paintings are centred on London this is due to my fondness for the city and it’s locality. In the future I have plans to paint New York, Chicago and Hong Kong. These cities contain a plethora of amazing buildings with unique skylines.
I paint using household gloss paints; this gives the work a vibrant, polished and shiny appearance. I like to work on a large scale as I feel it increases the importance and stature of the painting. My painting process is extremely time consuming, a painting can take up to seven weeks to complete. I have exhibited extensively throughout London and recently in Amsterdam.
When I am not busy painting or walking round London I can be found at Christie’s where I work. Working at Christie’s allows me the intimacy with paintings you cannot get in an art gallery. I am incredibly fortunate to work with paintings of past, present and future masters.http://www.matthewlindop.com/
