Rah Crawford

Born on April 7, 1973 in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Rah Crawford's mother exposed him to the arts at a very young age. Summer art camps, theatre and ballet classes were just some of the activities that sparked his artistic interests as a youth. His father, a semi pro boxer and illustrator, taught both physical and self-discipline, now cornerstones of Crawford's personality. Declining a full scholarship to a distinguished Art University, Crawford opted for a concentrated two-year commercial art school instead - collecting life experience while continuing his education.

Crawford's adventures soon lead him across the United States as a fashion model, techno-house music DJ and magazine publisher. Pursuing life experiences beyond the classroom walls afforded Crawford both the time and opportunity to develop his unique artistic style. His debut exhibition of 11 paintings sold out within the evening! Since then Crawford's work has remained in demand, with excellent predictions for the future.

In a time and age where images are taken at face value,
Rah Crawford reminds us not too. Combining his love of pop imagery with his keen intuitive insight, he calls his trademarked style Neoteric Pop-Iconic Clairvoyance .
This unique visual approach leads us deeper into the human psyche of life, love and culture.

Crawford's disciplined hand creates powerful imagery like an ancient craftsman, primarily relying on ink and brush to develop his figures. Closer inspection of Crawford's work reveals coded messages and admonitions, words and phrases intertwined to form complex labyrinths of shape nestled within the figures delicate spaces. The surface image is simply a piece of the puzzle, through research and study of the clued text the viewer is able to unlock a deeper layer in Crawford's colorful yet cryptic work.

Rah Crawford creates art for our high-speed information and multimedia culture using inking techniques that date back to the ancients. His work speaks the modern language of this generation in a way that great artists of the past have done
for theirs.
