I spend most of my time thinking, looking at and creating images. With the odd bit of throwing myself down a hillside clinging for dear life to a mountain bike, then thanking my lucky stars I made it to the bottom in one piece; only to lie about the skill I used in getting myself down intact.
I grew up in Essex, my childhood was spent in endless summer days playing ‘army’, lego and making paper aeroplanes with my friends. After numerous false starts concerning a career I settled on art (as that’s what I was happiest doing) and graduated in 2006 with an illustration degree from the University of Lincoln aged 26. In my 2nd year at Uni I met Emma; we now live near Sheffield with a mortgage and guinea pig named Ringo Bambingo.
I take inspiration from all aspects of art and design, from TV adverts to the paintings of Rembrant, I can spend long periods of time looking at the collages of Picasso and early Popart and have a great affection for Modernist poster design and Dada photomontage, I try and reflect these layout aesthetics and the hand crafted quality in my own art work; never wanting to remove the artist from the art even though I create images using Photoshop.
I’m a hard working and enthusiastic individual, and believe in working as hard as I play. Give me a camera I’ll take photos, give me a pencil I’ll draw a picture, give me a bike I’ll ride it down a stupid steep hill in the name of fun and adventure. Moreover I strive to keep my work fresh and exciting, constantly experimenting and evaluating myself and my work, to get as near as possible to my idea of perfection. Creating images is a passion and I want that passion to show in my art. |
