I've always wanted to be an illustrator. As a kid growing up in Leicester I would spend hours drawing dukes of hazard car chases, war scenes & footballers, in my teens breakdancers, graffiti & skaters.
I did my degree in Manchester in 1990 & was heavily influenced by Manchester's club culture & by my tutor David Hughes.
After college I travelled round Asia for 3 years, and returned with sketchpads full of Himalayan life & a hunger to make it in London.
My strength as an illustrator is my ability to draw. My favourite work is simple, stripped down, raw illustration & is all about the quality of the line.
I'm influenced by what's around me, urban landscapes, street scenes, cars, buildings & real people. I enjoy doing loose, edgy stuff best; I like the beauty in imperfection. |
